Description

Delicious crispy beef tacos topped with cheese, salsa, and sour cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • 8 crispy taco shells
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Monterey Jack)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 lime, sliced
  • Salsa (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until the onion is translucent. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned. Drain excess fat from the skillet.
  2. Season the Beef: Stir in taco seasoning mix and follow package instructions (typically involves adding water and simmering). Simmer for about 5 minutes or until well combined and slightly thickened. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Assemble the Tacos: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place crispy taco shells on a baking sheet and fill each with a generous scoop of the beef mixture. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the beef. Bake in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until cheese is melted and shells are crispy.
  4. Prepare the Salsa: In a bowl, combine diced tomatoes and chopped cilantro. Squeeze lime juice over the mixture and stir to combine.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove tacos from the oven and top with a dollop of sour cream and prepared salsa. Garnish with extra cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add chopped jalapeños to the beef mixture while cooking.
  • Use freshly grated cheese for better melting and texture.
  • Experiment with adding toppings like avocado slices or a drizzle of hot sauce for added flavor.
  • If you prefer, you can substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef.
