Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup strawberry puree
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp strawberry puree
  • Red food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt, then add to wet ingredients alternately with milk. Spread evenly in prepared cake pan.
  3. Repeat the vanilla layer steps, substituting cocoa powder for an equal amount of flour. Spread on top of the vanilla layer.
  4. In a bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add egg and strawberry puree, mixing until smooth. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt, then add to wet ingredients. Spread over the chocolate layer.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before frosting.
  6. Beat butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar and milk, beating until smooth. Divide frosting into three bowls. Add vanilla extract to the first, cocoa powder to the second, and strawberry puree (with red coloring if desired) to the third. Swirl the different frostings over the cooled cake for a marbled effect.

Notes

  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for a better mix.
  • To enhance the strawberry flavor, consider adding a few drops of strawberry extract.
  • Use a toothpick to create swirl designs on the frosting.
  • Chill the cake slightly before serving for cleaner slices.
