Deliciously sticky pecan caramel rolls that are perfect for breakfast or dessert.

- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

- 1 cup milk
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup pecans (coarsely chopped)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until warm (120°F-130°F).
- Add milk mixture to flour mixture; add eggs.
- Blend with an electric mixer until smooth.
- Stir in remaining flour to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic (about 6-8 minutes).
- Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
- Prepare the Filling:
- Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Roll out the dough to a 16×12 inch rectangle.
- Spread softened butter over the dough.
- Sprinkle with sugar-cinnamon mixture.
- Shape the Rolls:
- Starting at one long side, roll up the dough tightly.
- Pinch the seams to seal.
- Cut into 12 even rolls.
- Make Caramel Sauce:
- In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, honey, and cream.
- Cook over medium heat until the mixture boils.
- Pour half of the sauce in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle with pecans.
- Assemble and Bake:
- Arrange rolls, cut side down, in the baking dish.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 30-45 minutes).
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Pour remaining caramel sauce over the rolls.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Invert onto a serving plate while warm.
Notes
- Ensure milk is not too hot to prevent killing the yeast.
- For soft rolls, avoid over-kneading the dough.
- Use a sharp knife for clean cuts when slicing the rolls.
- Allow rolls to cool slightly before serving for better flavor development.
