Description

Delicious sticky rolls filled with caramel and pecans.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup pecans (coarsely chopped)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until warm (120°F-130°F). Add milk mixture to flour mixture; add eggs. Blend with an electric mixer until smooth. Stir in remaining flour to form a soft dough. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic (about 6-8 minutes). Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Filling: Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Roll out the dough to a 16×12 inch rectangle. Spread softened butter over the dough. Sprinkle with sugar-cinnamon mixture.
  3. Shape the Rolls: Starting at one long side, roll up the dough tightly. Pinch the seams to seal. Cut into 12 even rolls.
  4. Make Caramel Sauce: In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, honey, and cream. Cook over medium heat until the mixture boils. Pour half of the sauce in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle with pecans.
  5. Assemble and Bake: Arrange rolls, cut side down, in the baking dish. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 30-45 minutes). Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour remaining caramel sauce over the rolls. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Invert onto a serving plate while warm.

Notes

  • Ensure milk is not too hot to prevent killing the yeast.
  • For soft rolls, avoid over-kneading the dough.
  • Use a sharp knife for clean cuts when slicing the rolls.
  • Allow rolls to cool slightly before serving for better flavor development.
