- 2 cups sushi rice
- 4 nori sheets
- 200g cooked salmon or crab meat
- 1, sliced avocado
- 8 black olives, chopped
- 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon wasabi
- 2 tablespoons masago (fish roe, optional)
- soy sauce, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Sushi Rice:
- Rinse 2 cups of sushi rice until the water runs clear.
- Cook the rice according to the package instructions.
- Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl until dissolved.
- Once the rice is cooked, fold in the vinegar mixture delicately. Let it cool to room temperature.
- Prepare the Filling:
- Mix the cooked salmon or crab meat with mayonnaise and a bit of wasabi for a spicy kick.
- Slice the avocado into thin wedges.
- Assemble the Sushi Rolls:
- Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat, shiny side down.
- Spread an even layer of the prepared sushi rice over the nori, leaving a small border at the top.
- Add a line of the salmon or crab mixture and avocado slices across the rice.
- Carefully roll the mat until the nori closes and shapes a tight cylinder, applying gentle pressure.
- Slice the roll into 6-8 equal pieces using a sharp, wet knife.
- Decorate the Sushi:
- Place a small circle of avocado on top of each sushi piece to form the iris of the “eye.”
- Add a piece of black olive in the center of the avocado slice to complete the pupil.
Notes
- Keep your hands damp with water when handling sushi rice to prevent sticking.
- Use a sharp knife to cut the rolls and wet it between slices for smoother cuts.
- You can add masago (fish roe) around the edge of the rolls for an extra burst of flavor.
- Serve with soy sauce and additional wasabi for those who enjoy more heat.
