Description

A deliciously cheesy bread filled with potatoes and herbs, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup cooked and diced potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water with sugar and yeast. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Prepare Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  3. Prepare Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine diced potatoes, grated cheese, garlic powder, Italian herbs, and black pepper. Mix well.
  4. Shape the Bread: Punch the risen dough to deflate it. Roll it out on a floured surface. Spread the potato and cheese mixture evenly over the dough. Roll the dough into a log and cut into individual pieces or shape into desired forms.
  5. Second Rise: Place shaped dough pieces on a baking sheet, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the bread with melted butter. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the water is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast without killing it.
  • Customize by adding other cheeses, herbs, or spices to the filling.
  • For a crispier crust, add a small pan of water to the bottom of the oven while baking.
