Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pink food coloring
- Crushed Oreo cookies
- Whole Oreo cookies for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pans: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Make the Chocolate Cake: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined. Gradually stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth. It will be thin. Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- Prepare the Pink Frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Add milk and vanilla extract, beating until smooth. Mix in pink food coloring until the desired shade is achieved.
- Assemble the Cake: Place one chocolate cake layer on the serving plate. Spread a layer of pink frosting over the top. Sprinkle crushed Oreo cookies on the frosting layer. Place the second chocolate cake layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining pink frosting. Pipe additional decorations on top with the remaining frosting. Garnish with whole Oreo cookies around the edges or as desired.
- Cooking Time and Servings: Total cooking and preparation time: Approximately 1.5 hours. Serves: 12-14 people.
Notes
- For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for the best results.
