Description

Deliciously sweet and flaky cinnamon rolls filled with crispy bacon and topped with a maple glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 8 slices of bacon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 12 tbsp milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix together until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Cook the Bacon: Cook bacon slices in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon, drain on paper towels, and chop into small pieces.
  3. Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon together. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 12×9 inches. Spread the softened butter over the rolled-out dough. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough. Sprinkle chopped bacon on top of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  4. Shape the Rolls: Starting at a long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 8-12 slices, depending on the desired size of your rolls. Place slices into a greased baking dish, cut side up. Cover and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  5. Bake the Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Make the Glaze: In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth and pourable. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure milk is warm (not hot) to activate the yeast effectively.
  • Roll the dough tightly for a uniform spiral look.
  • Adjust bake time depending on the oven as temperatures may vary.
  • For a more pronounced maple flavor, add more maple syrup to the glaze.
  • The rolls can be prepared a day in advance and stored in the fridge before final baking.
