Description
Deliciously sweet and flaky cinnamon rolls filled with crispy bacon and topped with a maple glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 8 slices of bacon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1–2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix together until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Cook the Bacon: Cook bacon slices in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon, drain on paper towels, and chop into small pieces.
- Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon together. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 12×9 inches. Spread the softened butter over the rolled-out dough. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough. Sprinkle chopped bacon on top of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Shape the Rolls: Starting at a long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 8-12 slices, depending on the desired size of your rolls. Place slices into a greased baking dish, cut side up. Cover and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Make the Glaze: In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth and pourable. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- Ensure milk is warm (not hot) to activate the yeast effectively.
- Roll the dough tightly for a uniform spiral look.
- Adjust bake time depending on the oven as temperatures may vary.
- For a more pronounced maple flavor, add more maple syrup to the glaze.
- The rolls can be prepared a day in advance and stored in the fridge before final baking.
