- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Potatoes:
– Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
– Peel and thinly slice the potatoes. Set aside in cold water to prevent browning. - Make the Cheese Sauce:
– In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
– Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until it turns golden.
– Gradually add the milk and cream, whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
– Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
– Stir in 1.5 cups of cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. - Assemble the Casserole:
– Drain the potatoes and pat them dry.
– Layer half of the potatoes in a greased baking dish.
– Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
– Repeat with the remaining potatoes and sauce. - Bake:
– Sprinkle the remaining 0.5 cup of cheddar cheese on top.
– Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
– Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly. - Garnish and Serve:
– Let the casserole sit for 5-10 minutes before serving.
– Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
