Description

Delicious and warm baked cinnamon nut apples perfect for a cozy dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Apples: Core the apples, ensuring you leave about half an inch at the bottom to hold the filling. Use a sharp knife or apple corer for precision.
  3. Make the Filling: In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add two tablespoons of melted butter and vanilla extract to the mixture and stir until combined.
  4. Stuff the Apples: Place the apples in a baking dish. Evenly stuff the nut mixture into the center of each apple, packing it lightly.
  5. Add Toppings: Place a small pat (about 1/2 tablespoon) of the remaining unsalted butter on top of the filling in each apple. Drizzle the honey or maple syrup over the apples.
  6. Bake the Apples: Pour about 1/4 inch of water into the bottom of the baking dish around the apples to prevent burning and to steam them slightly. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the apples are tender and can be easily pierced with a fork.

Notes

  • Choose apples that are firm and hold their shape well when baked.
  • You can substitute walnuts or pecans with your preferred nuts or even add dried fruits like raisins or cranberries for variation.
  • Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat.
  • Adjust sweetness to taste, especially if using different apple varieties.
