Description

This hearty dish combines juicy beef patties with creamy chickpeas, spiced to perfection for a flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can chickpeas
  • 4 cloves grated garlic
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat to sear the beef.
  2. Form ground beef into 4 even patties, pressing just enough to hold their shape before adding to the skillet.
  3. Carefully flip the beef patties and add drained chickpeas, cooking until they turn brown and begin to burst, about 7 minutes.
  4. Break up the beef patties into smaller pieces and mix with the chickpeas.
  5. Mix in grated garlic, ginger, onion powder, cumin, garam masala, salt, and black pepper, cooking for about a minute.
  6. Incorporate the tomato paste, then pour in the water and mix well, tasting and adjusting seasoning if necessary.
  7. Remove from heat and serve immediately, optionally garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • A good oil helps to brown the beef and enhances flavor.
  • Opt for 80/20 or 85/15 ground beef for crispy edges and juicy texture.
  • Fresh garlic boosts aroma and flavor.
  • Ginger adds warmth and zest to the dish.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste as necessary.
